Various aspirants in Kisii County who were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Monday and given the greenlight to hunt for votes stressed the need to have peaceful campaigns and election in August polls.
Speaking to the press after being cleared in Kisii town, Erick Obino, aspirant for Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party appealed to Nyaribari Chache residents to come out and support him saying the people were yearning for change and the journey started after his clearance.
“I urge my competitors to ensure we do peaceful campaigns. Let us sell ourselves and what we want to do for our electorates and leave it to them to make their decision without intimidation, coercion, and bribery,” added Obino.
He noted that it was going to be tough to traverse the entire constituency stressing that infrastructure was a priority once elected in August polls because the road network in the area was in a bad shape and a few have been constructed selectively.
Obino further said that he would ensure there is equity in the disbursement of CDF bursaries and other national government funds without discriminating against anyone adding that the residents were concerned because people who could fund education for their children were getting fat cheques.
Richard Onyonka, Kitutu Chache South MP and Kisii County Senatorial aspirant under Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party expressed his gratitude after he was cleared by the Commission saying it was time to hit the campaign trail and hunt for votes in the next two months.
Onyonka dismissed allegations by people who are saying that his relationship with the Kisii County Gubernatorial aspirant would come to an end thus affecting their work stressing that his work would be an oversight.
Charles Mogaka, MP aspirant for Bonchari under the Upya Movement said that it would be a peaceful election noting that the government should provide them with more security because of the violence that may erupt.
Zebedeo Opore, another Bonchari MP aspirant under Jubilee Party, said that he was ready to hit the ground after his papers were cleared by the IEBC. He noted that the residents should be allowed to get their right choice, and determine for themselves so that they could make progress in terms of what they wanted from the elected leaders.
