MP calls for security agents to be proactive

Kigumo Member of Parliament Mr. Joseph Munyoro has called on security agents to be proactive in solving cases related to killings in the area.

Speaking during the burial of a 90-year-old Woman, Mary Nyeri from Irura village on Wednesday in Muthithi village in Murang’a, the MP said that the security agents should act with speed in investigating the murder incident.

“Mary Njeri was murdered in cold blood 10 days ago and so far, no suspect has been arrested in relation to the incident,” said Nyoro.

The body of Mary Njeri was found in a thicket three days after she went missing from her home on September 29.

According to Agnes Njoki, one of the deceased family members, Njeri had gone to the farm where she was tending to her crops on that fateful day but never came back home.

The MP has accused the security officers of laxity in their work calling for a reshuffle in their placement.

“We want the culprits who committed the crime to be arrested and I don’t understand why it is taking the relevant security agents so long to do their job,” he said adding that the nature of these crimes need aggressive officers who are able to act swiftly and have the culprits arrested.

Munyoro observed that lately, there have been increased cases of killings in the area and so far no one has been arrested in connection to the incidents.

According to Munyoro, about a month ago, a farm hand killed his employer and up to today, the suspect is still at large despite him having raised the issue with the concerned officers

“We cannot have people killing each other and the suspects are roaming around and no action taken yet despite there being law enforcers who are supposed to arrest them,” said Munyoro.

The MP also called for concerted efforts to fight drug and alcohol abuse, which is said to be one of the contributors of the high crime rate in the area. “We need a good strategy to help us fight drug and substance abuse menace which is wasting away our youth,” he said.
