Homa Bay town location now has a Senior Principal Chief who was installed Thursday by County Commissioner Moses Lilan in a colourful ceremony.
This follows the appointment of Joshua Ochogo who was the former senior chief of Homa Bay town location prior to hi installation as the senior principal chief.
Ochogo was adorned colorfully with a cap, a lanyard, a tag, and other symbols of authority in a ceremony that was graced by both members of the public and government officials including the County Commissioner, his Deputy (DCC) Jude wasonga, Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs), Chiefs and the clergy.
Speaking at the Coronation ceremony, Lilan said that the position was very competitive as other capable senior chiefs within the county had applied for the post but Ochogo emerged the best candidate in the interview leading to his appointment.
“A total of 10 chiefs had shown interest in the position of the Senior Principal Chief but only five were shortlisted before being sent to Nairobi for the final interview as required by the public service commission.
Among the five, Ochogo emerged the best candidate resulting in his appointment as senior principal chief of Homa Bay town location ” stated Lilan.
The County Commissioner advised Ochogo to take his responsibilities seriously adding that the position of a principal chief comes with a lot of responsibilities unlike his previous position of senior chief.
“I am hoping that Ochogo will not take this as just an appointment that comes with salaries and other privileges. This position comes with a lot of responsibilities and I hope you will be able to carry out all your duties and responsibilities diligently,” he said.
On his part, Ochogo appreciated efforts of all that led to the realization of his installation and promised to fulfil his responsibilities as expected of him by the people and the government.
Some of the responsibilities of a senior principal chief includes, coordination of national government functions, coordination of disaster management, promotion of law and order in liaison with security teams, implementation of Nyumba Kumi initiatives among others.
