Vihiga county government is set to construct a Non Communicable Diseases clinic in collaboration with Non Communicable Disease Alliance Kenya (NCDA-K).
The clinic will be located at the Hamisi Sub County hospital and will be a centre of excellence for training in NCD in the region.
Speaking while breaking the ground for the project, the Deputy Governor (DG) Wilberforce Kitiezo lauded NCDA-K for the project saying it would boost the efforts for managing NCDs in the county.
The DG said the County administration would involve Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) as front-line soldiers in sensitizing communities on NCDs.
The Executive Director of NCDA-K Dr. Catherine Karekezi stated that the facility would be fully equipped upon completion so as to offer the best services to the patients.
Dr. Karekezi said the project aimed at strengthening the health systems that would address NCDs including rheumatic heart disease, diabetes and sickle cell disorder.
