The Democratic Party (DP) Nyandarua senatorial candidate, George Kimani, has pulled out of the race to lobby for reforms in the potatoes sector.
Kimani said he dropped his bid to concentrate on “fighting for reforms in the potato sector” to empower the farmers in Nyandarua county
“After consulting, I formed the opinion that I would be better of fighting for reform in the potato sector in my capacity as a citizen without being a politician,” said Kimani.
By dropping out he leaves Jubilee and UDA candidates as the front runners in the race.
“Majority of my supporters are also potato farmers and after consulting them we came to the conclusion that I stop vying for senate seat and instead continue fighting for better policies for the farmers,” the lawyer said.
He said the farmers have agreed to support the side that will take care of their interest.
“We are happy that Peter Munya will remain the agriculture Cabinet Secretary and that is the side we will support so that we can continue pushing for trhe reforms,” he said.
