A man has been arraigned in a Nyeri court for threatening to kill his grandmother using an axe.
The suspect Dennis Wanjugu is accused of issuing death threats to his grandmother, Susan Muthoni, at Giakanja village in Nyeri County on July 22.
The Court heard that on that day, the accused who lives with his grandmother was heard uttering the words: “Cucu niui no guurage? (Grandmother do you know that I can kill you?)” to Muthoni while wielding an axe.
The offence is a contravention of Penal Code that states any person who unlawfully utters or causes any person to receive a threat to kill is liable to imprisonment of 10 years.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges before Magistrate, Faith Muguongo, who ordered him to be remanded at Ndugamano Police Station.
In the same Court, a man was arraigned for being in possession of 89 rolls of cannabis valued at Sh 4,000.
He also accused of selling the drugs which are supposed to be strictly used for medicinal purposes without a permit.
According to the charges, Mwangi Githae, was apprehended while selling drugs at the Endarasha Trading Centre in Kieni, Nyeri County.
The offence is a breach of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act.
In his defence, Githae pleaded not guilty, claiming that it was all a set-up because he is only famous for selling potatoes.
He was released on Sh 100,000 Cash Bail. The matter is set for mention in August17.
