In an effort to improve on driving skills and empower Boda Boda operators in Kirinyaga Central Constituency, area MP Munene Wambugu has launched an intensive training program.
The training being conducted by the Automobile Association of Kenya (AAK) will see 1000 riders equipped with driving skills, customer care techniques and general road safety skills among other traffic basics.
The AAK’s top brass was at the Constituency offices in Kerugoya town where the launch was conducted early this week.
Led by the Association’s CEO Timothy Keli , the riders were assured of quality two months training after which they will be issued with licenses that will enable them to get jobs in Eastern Africa Region.
“My team of five officers who include highly experienced instructors will offer their best such that those who qualify after the intense training will come out being the best among the best,” Keli promised.
Wambugu on the other hand said the training was overdue and urged the beneficiaries to seize the rare opportunity and come out as professional riders whom their customers could trust and depend on.
He said some of the riders often forgot other road users had their rights to use the facility hence the need to display the highest degree of discipline.
“The road being a public utility requires that its users must respect each other besides obeying the laid down traffic rules to avoid accidents and other forms of rogue driving,” the legislator said.
The training, he added, will cost Sh5.450 million with each learner having Sh 5450 fee paid by the Constituency Development Fund.
The trainees were also provided with free modern helmets as well as reflector jackets which are mandatory for safe riding.
The MP assured those who did not benefit during this first round to be patient as he was organizing a second one.
