Residents of Sitobo area, Chesikaki location Mt Elgon Constituency in Bungoma County are up in arms against a middle aged man who took off after raping a 10 month old baby girl.
KNA learnt that the suspect secretly sneaked into the minor’s home and did the act.
According to Abel Sikuku,a grandfather to the minor the incident happened when he had travelled to Mumia’s in Kakamega County.
“This incident happened while I was away. I was informed on the phone while I was still in Kakamega, and came very fast to get to know what transpired,” he said.
He noted, the suspect is a neighbour adding that after the act the man has disappeared asking area residents to be vigilant and trace his whereabouts.
Sikuku decried the use of drugs among the youths adding that the suspect linked to the rape is said to use excessive drugs.
He revealed that the minor was first rushed to Sirisia and Cheptais Sub County hospitals where doctors referred her to Cherang’ani nursing home in Trans- Nzoia County for emergency attention.
“The minor was admitted for nine days,” he said.
He added that the minor had severe injuries on her private parts and she was bleeding profusely.
Area Assistant Chief, Maurice Wetala confirmed the incident.
Mr Wetala confirmed that the relevant authorities have launched investigations into the matter.
He called on the residents to report such cases to the relevant authorities once they happen to give enough time for investigations.
