Policeman dies in a grisly road accident, two others injured

A policeman was burnt to death, while his two colleagues suffered serious injuries early Saturday, when a vehicle they were travelling in lost control and burst into flames at the border of Ugunja and Alego / Usonga Sub-counties.

The accident occurred at Fuludhi Bridge along the Siaya – Rang’ala road, when the vehicle hit the bridge’s guard rails and rolled.

Siaya Sub-county Police Commander, Benedict Mwangangi, said the officers were in a private vehicle and were travelling from Ugunja back to Siaya, when the 2.00 am accident occurred.

“The Toyota Voxy belongs to one of the officers,” said Mwangangi, adding that two of the officers managed to crawl out of the burning vehicle, but with broken legs.

He said that the Officer who perished was trapped in and could not crawl out.

The Sub-county Police Commander said that the two injured officers were rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was moved to the same Hospital’s mortuary.

Police have since commenced investigations into the incident, added Mwangangi.
