Power was disconnected at Hola Water Supply Plant

At least 12,000 residents of Hola Town and its outskirts have been experiencing severe water shortage for the past one week following power disconnection at Hola water supply plant.

Speaking to the press today on telephone, the Tana River Water and Sewerage Company(TAWASCO) managing director Engineer William Jillo said Kenya Power Company disconnected power due to an accumulation of electricity bill of Sh5 million.

Eng Jillo said, the water company was still young and unable to offset her electricity bills therefore, “we are working hand in hand with the department of Finance in the County government of Tana River to clear the bill before the end of the day so that water supply could resume to the people”.

Speaking to press one Hola resident who owns a hotel in the Town Ms. Jane Ngugi called on the water company to pay the bills so that water supply could resume because the guest houses owners are forced to pay extra money to water vendors to supply the commodity for use by guests.

Ms Ngugi said, the residents of Hola Town have been experiencing water shortage and yet they pay their water bills to the water company every month.

Ms. Hadija Komora, a resident said, during water shortage, she is forced to fetch water from river Tana that is infested with crocodiles hence, endangering her life and asked the water company to stop charging customers bills if it’s not able to supply water.
