Police in Homa Bay County have commenced investigations into an incident in which a high school student got injured after jumping from a moving hijacked vehicle.
The Dudi Girls Secondary school student sustained serious injuries during the Tuesday evening incident.
Speaking to the press, the Chief of Kanyach Kachar Location, Benard Omuga, said that the incident took place after two unknown passengers hijacked a matatu at Rodi Kopany Trading Center in Homa Bay Sub-county.
The commotion began when two criminals pretending to be passengers boarded the Oyugis bound vehicle with one of them sitting in the co-driver’s seat and the other in the back seat.
“I am getting two versions of the story. One is that the girl was pushed out of the vehicle and another one is that the girl jumped out of the vehicle. I am yet to get the true position which can be revealed when the girl becomes stable and tells the story,” Omuga said.
The Administrator said that when the vehicle’s driver and tout were out beckoning more passengers, the thug who sat at the co-driver’s seat moved to the driver’s seat and began driving the vehicle at a high speed.
Reports indicate that when the vehicle reached a bump at Ndiru area along Rodi Kopany – Oyugis road, the terrified girl either jumped or was pushed out of the moving vehicle.
The girl was rushed by good Samaritans to Samaria Hospital in Rodi Kopany Township and later transferred to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
The Administrator said the whereabouts of the vehicle and the other passengers was still unknown.
“My last conversation with touts at Rodi Kopany revealed that the vehicle is still missing,” Omuga added.
Homa Bay Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), Monica Berege, said that the matter is under investigation.
