Sh300, 000 worth of bhang nabbed in Juja

Police in Juja, Kiambu County yesterday evening nabbed bhang worth over Sh300, 000 from a residential house in Nyacaba village.

Juja Sub County Police Commander Phyllis Muthoni said acting from a tip off from members of the public police officers raided a house in the area where they found the bhang stashed in four bags and also recovered several Rizla rolling papers.

A 48-year-old man who is the owner of the house and who is suspected to be a drug dealer was arrested during the raid.

Muthoni said they suspect the bhang was meant to be sold to students in institutions of higher learning in the neighbourhood.

“We shall interrogate the suspect further to establish other members of the cartel who have been involved in the bhang trade. Anyone found to be involved will be dealt with according to the law,” she said.

Juja Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Charles Mureithi said bhang trade has remained a major headache for the security officers in the area noting that they have intensified patrols and crackdowns to smoke out the criminals and dismantle the syndicate.

He called on members of the public to continue working closely with the security personnel so as to weed out the menace.

“Bhang traffickers should watch out as we are coming for you. We won’t allow you to destroy our youth. We also ask the Judiciary to give these criminals harsh sentences to deter others from engaging in such illegal businesses,” said the DCC.

Juja Sub County remains a hotspot for bhang trade as two years ago bhang worth over Sh 23 million was nabbed in a residential house in Mwireri area, Juja Farm.
