Shock as neighbour hacks 18-year-old-girl to death in Baringo

Police are probing an incident in which a 26-year-old man killed an 18-year-old girl in Kaptalam village, Ewalel ward in Baringo Central Sub-County.

Confirming the incident, Ewalel area chief Patrick Kiprop told KNA the suspect, Thomas Kipsoto is alleged to have killed the girl at their homestead on Wednesday morning at around 9am.

It is however presumed that the suspect hacked the teen when she bumped into him as he attempted to steal foodstuffs prompting him to attack her with a panga he was using to cut down a tree.

“For the past one month, bthe victim’s mother has been suspecting Kipsoto of stealing from the homestead after she goes to do manual labour but today, he did not know the high school girl was home,” Mr. Kiprop said.

Kipsoto allegedly hacked her neck and fractured her upper right hand and inflicted another cut on the left hand. Police have said no murder weapon was recovered as investigations continue.

The suspect fled leaving one shoe at the murder scene that led to the confirmation that he executed the heinous act.

The chief said after the mother of the deceased heard screams while in the farm, she rushed back home only to find the lifeless body of her daughter lying on the compound prompting her to scream for help.

After reporting to the police, the officers from Kabarnet police station arrived and moved the body to the Baringo county referral mortuary awaiting autopsy while the suspect is still at large.
