Stakeholders have called for conducive learning environment in schools

Stakeholders in Education sector in Loitoktok Sub County have called for a friendly and conducive environment in schools to boost learners’ retention in school.

While participating in an Education Stakeholders Dialogue Day Forum at The AIC Girls secondary school in Loitoktok, the participants urged the schools’ heads to foster the environment so that learners feel they are part and parcel and enjoy being in school which can reduce absenteeism and dropout.

They also pointed out that in order to track the increasing number of absentees in schools, school heads should work closely with local administration to track learners who fail to report to school.

Iltilal primary school head teacher, Ronald Mogusu said he has used the local chief through PTA to trace pupils who absent themselves from school and found it very effective.

Mogusu also called upon his counterparts to foster unity and teamwork in their respective schools and understand the areas of interest of their staff in order to boost performance.

School heads were also challenged to establish mentorship programmes in schools and avenues for addressing learners’ challenges.

This is through working closely with Community Based and Non-Governmental Organizations through which their areas of inadequacy can be addressed.

Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, chairman Loitokitok, Mungori Kirea on the other hand said that to boost performance in schools the government should improve on infrastructure and staffing in the sub county.

Mt. Kilimanjaro Child Development Programme Manager, Angela Lapasi, said she will consult with Community Based, Non-Government Organizations and civil societies in organizing school feeding programmes in needy schools.

The forum which was held on Tuesday this week had brought together CBOs, NGOs, civil society organizations, Equity bank among others.
