Moyale Sub-County Assistant County Commissioner One (ACC I) Martin Muhia has said the government will not condone banditry and warned youth involved in stock theft they will be dealt with ruthlessly.
The ACC said the government will not sit back and watch wayward youth impoverish the elderly by stealing their livestock.
Muhia was speaking Tuesday evening at Qate center in Bori location during a hand over ceremony of five camels which had been stolen at Oddha area back to the rightful owner. The animals were stolen on October 20, this year.
The camels which had been brought in search of pasture and water belong to Aden Yusuf Mohamed, a resident of Yaballo sub-location of Golbo division in Moyale sub-county. They were stolen and sold off afterwards by some youths who drove them to the neighboring country of Ethiopia.
The ACC said with the help of community elders within the sub-county the camels were tracked and found in Ethiopia, where elders from both countries sat down and agreed on the modalities to be followed to return the animals back to the owner.
“Let the people promptly inform the authorities when animals have been stolen, where security apparatus will act immediately and make prompt follow up,” Muhia said.
However, the ACC said security personnel were still in pursuit of the perpetrators who went underground, adding they will soon be brought to book, once apprehended.
