Trans Nzoia County government has hailed the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) following the delivery of pharmaceutical drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth Sh51.8 million.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Claire Wanyama expressed the devolved unit’s gratitude when she led a team of county officials that received the medical supplies at the county headquarters on Tuesday.
Addressing the press at the venue, Mrs Wanyama described Tuesday’s delivery by KEMSA as one of the highest and most effective field rates since the medical supplies agency began distributing the health products to the County.
“Today we are extremely happy to officially receive a consignment of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals worth Sh51, 767,712 delivered by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority,” revealed Wanyama.
The medical supplies were delivered in three large trucks and one lorry.
According to the Health CEC, the county’s health department had made a requisition order for medical supplies totalling Sh57, 460,636.
The CEC noted the county will receive a further consignment of cold chain supplies worth Sh2,747, 200 among them vaccines and drugs for diabetes, “this is because these medical products require a temperature controlled vehicle,” added Wanyama.
The CEC also disclosed the supplies agency will also deliver another consignment of medical supplies worth Sh178,500, classified under the Dangerous Drugs Act. These are drugs like morphines that require technical management.
“Therefore, what we have are set to receive from KEMSA this round is about 95 percent of what we had requested for,” said a delighted Mrs Wanyama who was flanked by County Secretary Wakofula Sifuna, Health Chief Officer Charles Barasa and County Director of Health Dr Nancy Kegode.
Besides the KEMSA delivery, the county also received a second consignment of drugs worth Sh.9, 855,335 from the National Government under Universal Health Care (UHC), the presidential flagship programme.
“I am also happy to report the county has also received another consignment of medical supplies worth Sh9,855,335 from the President’s Universal Health Care programme,” the CEC disclosed.
The CEC assured members of the public the medical supplies will be distributed equally to all the 84 public health facilities across the county.
Speaking elsewhere through his official twitter handle, area Governor George Natembeya assured the locals of his administration’s commitment toward improvement of health service delivery.
“My government is committed to ensure accessible, affordable and reliable health services at disposal of Trans Nzoia residents. More consignments of health products would be delivered soon,” read the twitter post.
