Trans Nzoia police hunt for suspect over wife’s murder

Police in Trans-Nzoia County are hunting for a 40-year-old man who stabbed his wife to death.

In what a section of locals termed as a tragic case of a love triangle, the man identified as Andrew Mulati stabbed his wife, Joan Makungu, aged 35, with a kitchen knife on Monday night in their rented house at Koros II village, within Kwanza Sub County.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had visible deep cuts on her chin.

The suspect reportedly fled from the scene to an unknown destination.

The couple’s next-door neighbour, Mrs Alice Nasambu, told KNA that she was abruptly waken up by a commotion and screams that emanated from the victim’s house.

“I alerted my husband before we rushed to the house where we found the deceased writhing in pain while bleeding profusely,” recounted Mrs Nasambu.

The victim was rushed to Kitale County Referral Hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.

She later succumbed to the deep injuries inflicted during the fight.

The body was removed to Mt Elgon Hospital mortuary for preservation.

Kwanza Sub County Police Commander (SCPC) James Odera, who confirmed the incident, told KNA that the deceased was found lying on her bed while unconscious with a deep stab wound on her chin.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the husband disappeared immediately after committing the murder,” said Odera.

The SCPC added that a security search had been mounted in the area aimed at arresting the suspect.

The sub county police boss did not rule out chances of the runway culprit having crossed the border to Uganda.

“We have alerted our security counterparts in neighbouring Uganda,” he added.
