Security agencies in Ugunja Constituency have been reprimanded for complacency as cases of insecurity keep soaring.
Ugunja Member of Parliament, Opiyo Wandayi now wants both the police and national government administrative officers to partner with the local residents to wipe out insecurity, especially at Sigomere trading centre.
Speaking at Asango primary school grounds in his constituency over the weekend, Wandayi said leaders can no longer sit back and watch as criminals take over, breaking into business premises and killing and maiming at will.
“The police leadership in this sub county and national government administrative officers and all stakeholders, it is your duty to secure the people and their property,” said Wandayi who is also the Leader of Minority in the National Assembly.
The legislator’s comments come in the wake of rising insecurity in the area that saw the area Deputy County Commissioner, Felix Watakila accuse a section of law enforcement officers of colluding with criminals.
Watakila, who addressed a security meeting in Sigomere trading centre recently alleged that his office was privy to information that some policemen were hiring out their uniforms and even firearms to criminals.
Local residents have also been up in arms in protest against the police for failure to arrest suspects even in cases where compelling evidence has been provided.
Wandayi, who was flanked by among others, Siaya Governor, James Orengo and fellow legislators Dr. Lillian Gogo (Rangwe) and Dick Oyugi (Luanda) said Kenyans had delegated their sovereign power to government officers to ensure that they are protected hence the need for duty bearers to ensure that they performed their tasks diligently.
