The United State government has advice its citizen in Tanzania to take personal security
precautions in light of a suspected impending terrorist attack in the country’s capital,
Dar es Salaam.
“Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other Westerners in Dar es Salaam and
elsewhere in Tanzania continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct
attacks. Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels,
embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, police stations, places of worship and
others,” the embassy wrote.
The government advised Americans to maintain a low profile, pay attention to their
surroundings, and constantly take security precautions.
The U.S. embassy said that Americans traveling abroad should always have a backup
plan in place.
In Dar es Salaam in 2021, a terrorist murdered four people: three police officers and a
private security guard.
The guardhouse for the French Embassy was being manned by the officers.
According to investigations, police learned that the attacker spent a lot of his time
researching different sorts of terrorist attacks, including those committed by the Islamic
State group and Al-Shabab in Somalia and Mozambique.
The shooter had been viewing extremist content on social media sites that featured
images of terrorist attacks carried out by the al Shabaab and ISIS.
A police post in the southern Mtwara district, 35 kilometers from the Mozambican
border, was attacked by 300 jihadists in October 2020. The Islamic State organization
made the attack its own.
