Western RC urges Vihiga resident to Invest to Reap from the University Market

Western Regional Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has challenged Vihiga residents to take advantage of projects set up by the government to venture into businesses.

The RC said establishment of institutions such as the Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO) should trigger residents to invest in for instance housing and shops to tap from the market of the university community.

Nakoru lamented that despite the potential business market opportunity provided by the over 3,000 university fraternity, the residents had not seized it and the students and staff have to cover considerable distances to do shopping.

“It is unfortunate that the students who miss accommodation within the campus have to look for rental rooms in far-off places along the Kapsabet-Sabatia highway,” he regretted.

The administrator who was addressing a peace forum at the institution, also advised the local people to ensure they provide education to the children.

He stated that an educated community tends to be economically empowered through jobs and self-employment thereby ridding itself off criminals that would be in their midst,” he observed.

Nakoru directed National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and the security agencies to collaborate with the locals in order to clamp down on the sale and consumption of illicit brews.

He stated that the illicit brew business was a contributory factor to the incidents of crime as well as moral decadence in the society.

The officer appealed to the participants, who included community elders, religious leaders, representatives of youth, women and bodaboda, to uphold peace and order during the ongoing electioneering period.
