Over 70 schools from Western Kenya are participating in the Western Regional Secondary School Sports Association (WRSSSA) Term 2 games.
St. Peters Mumias High School is hosting the competition where schools will be competing in Soccer under-20, Volleyball, Netball, Rugby 7’s, Basketball and Basketball 3by3.
Other sports are Handball, Hockey, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis and lawn Tennis.
The Regional Chair Martin Waswa said the competition is stiff bearing in mind that new schools have trounced traditional giants in the county championships that were held last week.
Some of the schools to watch which defeated traditional giants are Mwitoto Boys from Kakamega, Mabunge R.C Boys from Busia, Bukembe boys from Bungoma and Ebwali from Vihiga county both on Soccer.
Waswa urged schools and coaches to adhere to the rules and only field school children aged 19 and below to minimize appeals.
“We don’t have time for appeals as you know the time is limited. The rules are very clear; we only want eligible players in the championships. A school which presents a non-student will be punished severely,” he noted.
The Regional Championships will run from today 1 September 2022 to 3rd September in preparation for National Secondary School Championships which will be held between 8th to 13th September in Nakuru.
After the National Championships, successful schools will proceed to the East African Secondary School Games which will be held between the 14th and 24th September 2022 in Arusha Tanzania.
