Woman Rep implores parents to take parental responsibility

Murang’a County Woman Representative Beatrice Njeri has implored parents to embrace their parental responsibilities and avoid delegating the same to teachers.

Speaking at Kimorori grounds in Kenol during the relaunching of the county scholarship program, Njeri reminded parents and guardians to own up to their roles as parents since every child will eventually return home after completing studies either as a successful person or otherwise.

“Be involved in your child’s education because when your child clears secondary school education and proceeds for further education, if their dreams are fulfilled, you become the first beneficiary. If their dreams crumble, you are the same one who bears the consequences,” she emphasized.

The woman representative further called out illicit brew traders saying the vice has become rampant in the county leading to irresponsible drinking thus absentee fathers.

“If most husbands were responsible fathers, they would have been present for our children. Unfortunately, these absentee husbands are nowhere to be seen because they have lost their way in alcoholism,” she lamented

To curb the vice, the woman representative said she has made an agreement with the county government to regulate licensing of alcoholic products for the well-being of children.

“We do not want to educate our children only for them to get lost to alcoholism, so we must accept the fight against illicit brews in Murang’a. This we must do so that our children can have a bright future and so that our husbands can return home,” she added.

Njeri promised to collaborate with other county heads in making plans for women’s programs within the county adding she is committed to continuing with the government student scholarship program that was started by her predecessor, Sabina Chege.

The woman rep promised to avail to residents avocado seedlings that they could plant so that they are able to afford school fees through the sale of avocados.
