A woman was yesterday sentenced to serve two-year imprisonment by a Murang’a court after she was found guilty of threatening to kill her mother.
Margret Waithira was handed the jail term without the option of paying a fine by Chief Magistrate Peter Maina.
Waithira had faced charges of threatening to kill her mother Monica Wamaitha using a machete at her home in Kiawambeu village in Murang’a east Sub County on June 19.
Three prosecution witnesses who testified before the court said there was bad blood between the daughter and her mother.
The witnesses who are family members said it was not the first time for Waithira to threaten to kill her aged mother as she demanded a share of family property.
In her defense, Waithira denied that she was threatening her mother saying on the mentioned date, she was defending herself from her brother who assaulted her.
She told the court that her mother and her brother are always against her and pleaded to be acquitted or handed a non-custodial sentence by the court.
The magistrate gave her 14 days to appeal if she was not satisfied with the sentence.
