A 27-year-old Information Technology graduate Sadam Salat of ANC is among five candidates who have so far been cleared by IEBC to contest for the Tana River County senatorial position.
Sadam hails from Bura Constituency and was accompanied by his father and mother who were the proposer and seconder respectively. His dad said he educated his son through the burning of Mathenge trees to get charcoal for his son’s fees.
“I have been cleared to vie for the Tana River senatorial position. Youths have been marginalized; I want to be the agent of change. Today a messiah was born to champion for change that is why I am vying,’’ said the elated Sadam after he was cleared.
Former Members of Parliament for Garsen and Galole constituencies Danson Mungatana and Hassan Dukicha are gunning for the senator seat were also cleared today, they call for peaceful campaigns since there is life after the election.
Mungatana is vying on a UDA ticket while Dukicha is vying on a Jubilee party ticket. The first senator of Tana River from 2013-to 2017 Ali Abdi Bule of the federal Party and Bakari Garise of Pamoja Africa Alliance were cleared.
Tana River County Returning Officer Yonah Ogalo said they are expecting seven other aspirants Tuesday. He said the nomination exercise has not encountered any challenges.
