Mzee Stanley Kamenju Rukwaro from Timboroa in Baringo County celebrated his 101st birthday surrounded by family and friends. The centenarian’s eldest son, Stephen Mwangi (70), praised his father for raising them in the Christian way and instilling values that have guided them throughout their lives. His siblings also expressed their gratitude for the lessons their father taught them, and urged others to cherish their parents as they age.
Mzee Kamenju is blessed with over 140 grandchildren, all of whom credit him with illuminating the path of Christ for them. His wife, Miriam Wanjiku, shared the secret to their long and fulfilling marriage, advising couples to persevere through life’s setbacks and always communicate their issues.
During the celebrations, Kamenju expressed his gratitude to God for his long life and attributed it to a healthy lifestyle, contentment, and most importantly, fear of the Lord. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to follow the Christian way, saying it was the key to a fulfilling life.
Kamenju reminisced about the difficult times they faced in the past, where they could only afford to eat Githeri, a traditional Kenyan dish made of maize and beans. He was proud of how far they had come, now being able to enjoy a variety of foods, including meat and bread.
The celebration was a testament to the power of family, love, and faith, and a reminder to always cherish those who have guided us throughout our lives.
