A 29-year-old man accused of stealing clothing worth Sh4, 600 has been sentenced to two-year probation.
Robert Murgor, who appeared before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Barnabas Kiptoo allegedly stole one White Royal jacket and a khaki trouser on April 3 2022 at Tulwopngetany village in Kesses sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.
During the hearing on May 19, 2022, the accused’s father pleaded with the court to be lenient on his son whose drinking behavior he said had spiraled landing him in continuous troubles.
He also stated that his son was a reliable person who acted sensibly and responsibly when not intoxicated.
The accused who is alleged to have been drunk when he committed the offense remorsefully pleaded guilty to the charges and attributed it to his uncontrollable behavior when drunk.
Murgor who is a single parent with a standard seven son allegedly stole the garments and wore them before he met with the owner who identified the clothes to be his.
The magistrate sentenced the offender to two years of probation with a chance to be rehabilitated due to his substance abuse.
