3,710 Kericho Residents to Receive Title Deeds

Industrialization, Trade Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ms. Betty Maina has disclosed that 3710 title deeds will be issued to the residents of Kericho between 14th and 20th of this month.

While issuing title deeds at Sosiot Centre in Belgut Sub-County and Moi Gardens in Kericho town Thursday, Maina regretted that many title deeds in the County were still in the names of the original owners who are already deceased.

The CS appealed to families who are yet to start succession of their land parcels to fast-track the process so that they can benefit from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to the Lands ministry on the issuance of land title deeds in their custody.

“Many people who should receive their title deeds are deceased and we are encouraging families to start processes of succession soon after the death of their kin to quicken the process of acquiring the titles,” she advised.

The CS gave out 20 title deeds and the rest will be issued to the beneficiaries once they complete the identification of actual beneficiaries in the families through succession processes.

“I’m urging families who did not manage to receive their titles today to visit the registry departments in their Sub-counties to establish the state of their land and how to proceed to make sure that they get the titles in their names,” added Ms. Maina.

The CS who was flanked by Kericho County Commissioner Mr. Kamau Karungo told the families who did not get land titles to get assistance from their Chiefs who will issue administration letters to those they select to administer their estate on their behalf.

“Kericho residents are happy and we sincerely thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for initiating the issuance of title deeds to members of the public free of charge until 20th, of this month,” said Mr. Karungo.

The latest phase of the national title deeds issuance program will see the immediate issuance of one million title deeds to land owners across the country.

The government is also documenting land belonging to public institutions.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning jointly with partners in the education sector has succeeded in titling parcels of land belonging to 20,000 schools and surveying 32,000 public schools countrywide.
