564 ECDE teachers get recruited in Laikipia

A total of 564 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers have been recruited in Laikipia county.

The recruitment has seen seven-degree holders, 173 diploma and 384 certificate holders secure employment in the region.

In an interview with Kenya News Agency at a function to issue appointment letters to the teachers in Nanyuki, Laikipia county chief officer in charge of education Evans Kamau, said after the Council of Governors (COG) approved ECDE scheme of service on February that had delayed the employment of the teachers, they immediately embarked in conducting suitability interviews.

He further said, the recruited ECDE teachers are employed on Permanent and Pensionable terms as per COG guidelines.

He noted the entry level as per the scheme of service will be F and G depending on individual qualifications. The recruited tutors will be posted to the 442 ECDE centres within the county.

Ms Maria Wangui, one of the recruited ECDE teachers and who hails from Matanya told KNA that she had been out of gainful employment for ten years.

She noted that the employment is a relief to her and she will be able to support her family.

Wangui encouraged youth not to lose hope in life but rather to be persistent in their endeavours.
