Bars that operate beyond the stipulated hours in Kilungu Sub County, will be closed, area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jane Katuse has warned.
Katuse singled out bars owners in Ilima Ward saying they were the most notorious in flouting regulations, while adding that the government will not hesitate from taking action against them according to the law.
“If we get you operating beyond the stipulated hours, we shall close your bar. Don’t say we are against your business as we cannot allow lawlessness,” warned Katuse after reading the President’s speech at Katulie Primary School on during Mashujaa Day celebrations Friday.
“So, we will address this problem and ensure it is dealt with without any favoritism,” the administrator added.
Consequently, the deputy county commissioner noted that they will work closely with the county government to ensure such practices of unscrupulous proprietors ends completely in the area.
The DCC was reacting to comments made by the Ilima Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Jonathan Muthoka who said bars in the area were operating 24 hours 7 days a week.
On bhang, the administrator took issue with the local residents for refusing to give information to the government to arrest culprits involved in the vice that is on the increase in the area.
In this regard, Katuse urged the area residents to provide information to the relevant authorizes, which will be traded with confidentiality, aimed at arresting the suspects to face the full force of the law.
“Bhang is sold in secret with full knowledge of mwananchi. Give us information in confidence so that we can arrest the culprits to face the law and end this vice,” implored the DCC.
On the impending El Nino rains, she appealed to the residents especially those on hilly places to be prepared to move away, when the heavy rains start pounding the area to avert loss of lives.
Therefore, the administrator called on residents to take seriously the warnings the government was issuing through the meteorological department.
“When National Drought Management Authority issued a report on hotspots during a disaster meeting, Kilungu featured as the most precarious due to the hilly terrain of the area and known for mudslides. So, I urge the people to be very careful especially those on the hilly areas,” warned Katuse.
“It is better to be found prepared rather than being found unawares to avert loss of lives,” she reiterated.
On exams, she noted that the Sub- County was prepared to conduct the KCPE and KAPSEA exams that are scheduled to start on 30th October 2023.
Speaking at the same function, Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr said he will assist the Education department with vehicles to ensure the national examinations are conducted smoothly.
“I want our children to do their examinations without any problem. My government will provide vehicles to the education department like we did last year,” Mutula reiterated.
