Loitokitok Sub County has received and disbursed Sh. 19.4 million to over 2,400 Inua Jamii programme beneficiaries within the subcounty.
The beneficiaries included 1634 elderly persons in the cash transfer program, 104 persons living with disability and 700 orphans.
Speaking to KNA in his office, Loitoktok Sub County Social Development Officer, Titus Wambua said each beneficially received Sh 8,000, being the consolidated amount for between November and February. The beneficiaries are supposed to receive Sh2000 monthly.
Wambua explained that those who qualify for the fund are in three categories including, the elderly who are over 70 years old, persons with severe disability and orphans and vulnerable children. However, many other parameters are also checked including level of poverty and vulnerability.
The officer said the program, run by the National Government, is meant to restore dignity for the vulnerable in the society.
The beneficiaries receive the money through KCB bank, Equity bank, Post bank, Cooperative bank and Kenya Women Trust Fund.
Wambua added that the government is planning to upscale the project to accommodate more beneficiaries.
