Azimio la Umoja wrapped up its campaigns in central Kenya at the newly constructed Kirigiti International stadium in Kiambu County.
With this being the first event held at the refurbished historic Kirigiti stadium, the 15,000 capacity stadium was at its full capacity with politicians affiliated with the party and Kiambu residents drawn from all across the County.
Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga who was accompanied by his running mate Martha Karua and leaders allied to the party said the stadium is an example of the many government projects that happened in second term after the handshake.
“We can all attest of the many government projects that have been completed in the three years of the handshake, because our opponent was busy loitering across the county, campaigning for himself immediately after the 2017 general elections,” said Raila.
“I have agreed with President Kenyatta that I will continue with the projects he has started,” added the Azimio party leader.
Raila further refuted claims of him being a government project saying he has over the years fought for the rights of Kenya’s and he does not need to be anyone’s project to continue doing so.
“When you say I am Uhuru’s project because he comes from the central, did I not know Kibaki was from the central region when I said ‘Kibaki Tosha?” posed Raila.
He cited that their biggest agenda is the economic liberation of the county. “This election will be about justice and economic liberation of the country. It is about right and wrong and we as a country are at a crossroads,” he declared.
While describing Ruto as an ill-tempered politician who should not come close to power, Karua urged Kenyans to elect mature leaders in the forthcoming polls.
Karua further warned Kenyans against voting for leaders that have been disrespectful towards President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Who among you parents would allow their children to disrespect them? Respect is a virtue,” she said.
Meanwhile, it’s only a few days before the end of the official campaigning period, ahead of the August 9 polls.
