Homa Bay residents urged to take health insurance cover

Homa Bay County Governor, Gladys Wanga, has urged county residents to enroll with National Insurance Fund (NHIF), to ease the burden of medical bills.

Wanga said the County was afflicted by negative health indicators and to reverse the trend, universal health coverage was necessary.

Speaking when she received a consignment of drugs for public health facilities, the governor stressed that NHIF cover should be a priority for all residents.

She told the locals that NHIF services have been improved to take care of both consultation fees and the cost of medicines for the outpatients as well as inpatients.

“I want to plead with our people to acquire NHIF cards, it will reduce the poverty levels by taking care of medical bills for families,” she said.

The Governor said she will liaise with the local NHIF management to look into ways of opening an office in the County Referral Hospital to ease access to their services.

The Governor advised the residents to visit the NHIF office in Homa-Bay town or Huduma Center to apply for the card.

Deputy Governor, Oyugi Magwanga, assured residents that they will deliver on all their campaign pledges

“I want to assure our people that within the first 100 days after being sworn in, the impact of our service delivery will be felt,” he said.

Oyugi assured the residents that a petition challenging their win filed in court by former Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero, will not deter them from delivering services to the people.

The County Chief Officer for health Kevin Osure assured the public that all the drugs procured for public health facilities will be registered in the system with strict surveillance against theft.

“Our system will be able to trace all the medicine and ensure that no drugs are stolen,” he said.

Osure also urged the public to be vigilant and report any hospital staff involved in corruption.
