Homa Bay residents have been urged to work hand in hand with their leaders to ensure development in the county.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Christ the Healer Cathedral Church in Homa Bay, Dr. Simon Onyango, Bishop of the Anglican Church Southern Nyanza Diocese advised the people to support the government in implementing development programmes.
The Bishop also challenged the county government to strategize the resources from the national government and utilize them in a way that will benefit the people. He pointed out that focus should be put on improving the vital dockets in the region including education and health.
“Leaders should strive as much as possible to fulfil their pledges they made to the people during their campaigns. Areas like infrastructure, education, agriculture and other informal sectors need to be improved,” he said.
The Clergyman said that as the electioneering period is long gone, the residents should now resume their daily businesses for self-development. He further warned them against using social media to propagate hate and defamation.
This comes after a number of people were using social media platforms to criticize the Archbishop of Anglican church Jackson Ole Sapit for conducting a prayer ceremony for the President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, just before the general election results announcement saying that he was biased.
He said that spiritual leaders do not have the capacity to search souls of people they are praying for and that the Archbishop was dispensing his responsibility as the man of God, and asked the residents to avoid blaming the clergy.
