Kenya kwanza headache on senator’s choice

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Ford Kenya MPs in Bungoma are at loggerheads on who to support for the county senatorial position when a by-election is declared.

The seat fell vacant after Moses Wetang’ula who was elected resigned to vie for the national assembly speaker position which he won against Mr. Kennedy Marende.

Whereas Webuye MP Dan Wanyama is asking speaker Moses Wetang’ula to endorse a UDA candidate, former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Bungoma women rep Catherine Wambilianga maintains that the seat is up for grabs by a Ford Kenya candidate and wants all Kenya Kwanza MP’s to back Wafula Wakoli.

“As Ford Kenya we are very clear that we will support Mr. Wakoli, a young and vibrant mind, Wakoli has been very loyal to the party and is the ideal candidate for the Senate seat,” she said.

She has been backed by Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga who said that Ford Kenya party cannot back a Senator from any other party asking all Kenya Kwanza leaders in Bungoma to rally behind Mr. Wakoli.

Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi dismissed MP Wanyama’s claims that President Ruto has agreed to back Mwambu’s bid.

“Let us remain truthful to what we tell our people and the press, the President has not declared his support for Mwambu,” Mr. Wanyonyi noted.

However, he argued that Wetang’ula should be impartial and avoid leaning on either side and allow the best man to win fairly
