The Kajiado town residents breathed a sigh of relief after moderate rains pounded the area for the better part of Monday evening.
Speaking to KNA, the residents expressed delight for the rains which have since cleared the dust from the town which in recent days had resulted in health complications especially respiratory and sight.
Mohamoud Issa, a business owner in Kajiado town says he is relieved after the rains since he was almost giving up on dusting his stock and wares after every moment the wind blew raising dust ruining his valuables.
He narrated how in a day he would dust off his costly imported jewelry and garments had started wearing out from continous dusting calling on the county government and the national government to complete tarmacking all roads in the town to ensure businesses operate smoothly in friendly municipality.
Sarah Simpa, a grocery vendor expressed relief after the rains saying her business was nearly closing since customers would find her stock dirty from dust.
Jackson Teiwo a local herder is optimistic the rains will make grass sprout in a week’s time and salvage his livestock at the brink of death following the drought that had claimed some of his sheep.
Kajiado meteorologist John Rotich said the moderate rain was a result of the passing North East Monsoon winds characterized by elements of cumulus clouds.
He added that the rains are not sufficient for crop germination since the dry weather will prevail till the onset of the October-December rains expected in early November.
A spot check by KNA revealed road-side premises were adversely affected by dust from Bodabodas, cars, pedestrians and livestock filling their houses, businesses and other road users of the windy countryside town.
