Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant, Jamleck Kamau has promised to stock all public health facilities in the county with drugs within one month if he wins the seat on August 9 general elections.
During his campaign trail in parts of Kangema and Mathioya Sub counties on Sunday, Kamau who is vying on Jubilee Party ticket said public hospitals in the county are in bad shape and residents are suffering for lack of drugs.
He vowed to stock the health facilities with drugs within 30 days of his leadership as Murang’a governor. “Health is a very important sector. I promise to ensure all hospitals have drugs within 30 days in office. From my assessment, people currently are being directed to buy prescribed medication from private chemists, something which is a big burden to the poor.
The money allocated to health in devolved units is adequate to ensure there is no shortage of drugs but due to corruption, people are suffering for lack of medicine,” he told the locals as the campaign for county chief intensified.
He said that priority will be given to health matters while allocating the revenue collected in the county to ensure late allocation of funds by the national treasury does not inconvenience health services.
He further said his administration will also revamp the hospitals to spare residents from traveling to Nairobi to seek specialized treatment.
Kamau will be competing for the seat with other six aspirants including Irungu Kang’ata (UDA), Dr. Moses Mwangi (Safina), Irungu Nyakera (Farmers Party), Joseph Mbai (Usawa Kwa Wote), Wairagu wa Maai (DP) and Former Kandara MP, Joshua Toro.
Kamau underscored the need to revamp the health sector saying there is a need to have healthy people who will champion development.
“There is nothing as important like life. We need to protect the lives of our people by ensuring they get better medical services and that’s why I give priority to health,” he added.
Meanwhile he observed that many poor parents are unable to take their children to secondary schools saying the county bursary will mainly support children from poor background to acquire education.
“Poor parents have been unable to take their children to big schools where they are admitted due to lack of needed school fees and I promise to seal loopholes which have led to the county losing a lot of money so that our children get better education,” he added.
His running mate, Dr. Naomi Kagone urged Murang’a residents to elect leaders with proven development record advising them not to be deceived by the party wave.
“Put in place leaders who you know will improve service delivery in our county. Don’t elect based on parties but on their qualities to deliver development. Currently Murang’a is faced with numerous challenges ranging from poor health care to unemployment and this calls for a strong leader who will deal with these challenges,” she added.
