Ambassador Waringa requests IEBC to extend running mate deadline

Independent Presidential candidate Amb. Esther Waringa has requested the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to extend the timeframe of submitting the names of Presidential running mates to next week which begins Sunday 22nd.

Speaking Monday during a press briefing outside the IEBC headquarters, Waringa said she is seeking the extension as she needs time to come up with the right person and to avoid much pressure, as well as make informed decisions on the same.

“A running mate is a person who must share the country’s vision with the President, be highly intelligent, a visionary leader, selfless, competent, responsible, accountable, focused and must have a high level of moral uprightness,” said Waringa.

Waringa who is the Founder and President of Public Service Governance Organization, highlighted that due to the sensitivity of the deputy president’s office, there was a need to amend electoral laws to allow a president to appoint and also dismiss their deputy after assuming office for reasons permitted by law.

“Roles and job descriptions of deputy presidents must be well stipulated and if found that the office is not very necessary it can be scrapped to avoid scenarios where the presidents and their deputies are not in working terms,” she proposed.

She further noted that she is committed to guarding the country and urged her supporters to make a right decision while considering the next government.

“Our country is now much more important than anything else at this point in time, so let us put all our energies into this process so as not to make a single mistake this time round,” she added.
