Preparations to celebrate this year’s Mashujaa day fete in Kisii County on October 20 are complete.
Speaking to the press in Kisii town on Tuesday, Kitutu Central Deputy County Commissioner(DCC), Elizabeth Atemi said they are ready to hold the celebrations at Gusii stadium and urged members of the public to come out in large numbers to attend the event.
“This is the first celebration that will be attended by the new Governor for Kisii County and the County Commissioner will be present to read the speech of the President,” she said.
The DCC noted the function will also provide an opportunity for various groups including churches, schools, and private practitioners from the entertainment industry to showcase their talent.
In addition, Atemi said they have invited heroes and heroines who will entertain the attendees and deliver speeches detailing their contribution to our sovereignty as a nation.
She assured the residents of adequate security and standby disaster management protocols during the ceremony to ensure the function is successful.
Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes Day, is celebrated every year on October 20 to honour those who fought for freedom from colonial rule or positively contributed to post-independence Kenya.
Kisii County had the privilege of hosting the National Mashujaa Day celebrations in 2020 at the same venue and the ceremony was graced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This year, the national celebrations are set to be held at Uhuru Gardens at Langata which was recently opened after being closed for two years for renovations.
