Governor pushes hospital to offer excellent in-patient services

Governor Cecily Mbarire has urged the Embu Teaching and Referral Hospital (Embu Level 5) to offer excellent in-patient services to patients.

The Governor who spoke while flagging off the Sh12.9 million third batch of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals consignment from Kemsa to Embu Level 5 Hospital said that there is need for the hospital to offer decent accommodation and meals to patients admitted at the facility.

Mbarire said that her administration will introduce a supplementary budget in order to purchase hospital linen like gowns, bedsheets, blankets and pillow cases

The Governor noted reform milestones in Level 5 Hospital since the hospital started receiving pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical drugs from KEMSA adding that it has restored the trust of residents in the hospital.

She said that as a result of the supply of the pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical drugs, the hospital has been able to experience tremendous rise in the number of out-patients visiting the hospital from 10,000 to 14,675 in the month of September adding that this depicts the trust the residents have placed in the hospital.

The Governor also noted that both medical and non-medical personnel have gained morale to work and deliver quality services to patients.

“Since we started receiving pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceuticals from KEMSA, the trust of our people has grown and they now trust our hospitals,” said the Governor.

Mbarire however said that there has been dismal performance from the in-patient sector of the hospital urging the hospital management to offer excellent services in the in-patient sector.

She said that despite the in-patient sector experiencing an increment in visits in the month of August from 930 to 1,203, there is still a lot that needs to be done to better the services.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Embu Level 5 Daniel Mugendi noted that the hospital’s work load has gone up by 40 per cent and that they are putting in place an electronic work system to help the hospital monitor work delivery by medical and non-medical personnel in order to improve service delivery to Embu residents.

The area Deputy Governor Kinywa Mugo who congratulated the medical and non-medical personnel for the improvements that are witnessed in Level 5 facility, urged the hospital to improve on its record keeping to seal loop holes that lead to drugs disappearance from the hospital and any other indiscipline cases.

Chief Officer Stephen Kaniaru called on the hospital management to continue using manual records management as they wait for the intervention of the County Government.

Kaniaru said that the County Government of Embu is in the process of digitizing all the records management of the hospital to lessen the workload burden.
