Members of the Assumption of Office for the Uasin Gishu County Governor has begun the preparations for the swearing in of Jonathan Bii Chelilim and his Deputy, Eng. John Barorot.
The swearing in of a new Governor is one of Kenya’s most important constitutional events.
Speaking during a media briefing, Uasin Gishu County Secretary, Edwin Bett, said the Committee has been constituted to facilitate the handing-over process in the County following the successful conclusion of the General Elections and succeeding declaration of the Governor-Elect and his Deputy.
The swearing ceremony will take place at the Eldoret Sports Club on Thursday August 25,2022as from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in accordance with the law.
According to the law it stipulates that all newly elected governors are supposed to be sworn in 10 days after being declared the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and shall occur in a public ceremony before a High Court Judge.
Bett added that they have issued guidelines which will be used during the swearing in ceremony.
The county secretary called upon residents of Uasin Gishu County to turn up in large numbers hinting that the event will host more than 10,000 citizens who will witness the historic swearing in ceremony of their new governor.
The Committee members include the County Police Commander, Chief Officer for Finance and Economic Planning, Chief Officer-In-Charge of Public Service Management and Administration, County Criminal Investigations Officer, Clerk to the County Assembly, Chief Officer-In-Charge of Culture and the County attorney among others.
