A Baragoi Boys High School teacher was shot and killed by armed bandits a few meters from the schools’ gate on Monday afternoon.
Confirming the incident Samburu North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jackson Oloo said that the English literature teacher was heading to hospital in Baragoi town when he met the assailants who shot him five times on the chest.
Oloo said that the male teacher had asked for permission to go to hospital from the school’s principal after he felt unwell throughout the morning hours.
He added that motive behind the killing is not known but police have already started investigations while searching for the criminals who escaped. “A security team has already been dispatched to track the killers and establish the motive behind the killing,” the DCC said.
Baragoi Boys High school has on several occasions been turned into a battle field between two rival communities living in the area.
Since the early 2000s, the school’s performance has been affected by perennial insecurity in Baragoi which also saw students’ enrollment drastically reduce while parents opted to withdraw their children from the school after fearing for their lives.
