Baringo Deputy Governor Keen on Ajira Digital Programme and ICT skills training

Over 50 youth in Kabarnet within Baringo County have undergone a two-day Ajira digital training on digital marketing in a bid to acquire skills to enable them do online work.

Speaking at his Kabarnet office on Tuesday, Deputy Governor Charles Kipng’ok applauded the efforts of the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs to train youth in order to earn a decent living online and promised that the county government was committed to empower youths.

“It is a great opportunity for the youth and it will go a long way in reducing poverty levels in the county and once we are settled as an administration, we will meet the center managers and see how to support these trainings in order for youth to become self-reliant,” Kipng’ok said.

County Director of ICT Gideon Tirok told KNA that the Ajira digital programme was impacting many lives as youths had embraced the training and were able to earn money.

Tirok added that the County innovation hubs (CIH) in Kabarnet, Eldama Ravine, Mogotio and Marigat were also training youth on ICT skills free of charge and urged residents to take advantage of this.

He acknowledged the support by the County government and World Best Friends-Korea for their support as it had gone a long way in ensuring youth acquire the needed ICT skills.

Ajira Digital center manager of Eldama Ravine Dan Korir and of Baringo North Ernest Kirui while speaking during the training called on youths to register to be trained at the various county innovation hubs across the county or online at ajiradigital.go.ke.

“The future is digital and I urge more youth to register to be trained on digital marketing, transcription, online writing and data entry to get the necessary skills to work online and earn a living,” Kirui said.

Korir said the Eldama Ravine innovation hub was the best in the county as they also have community outreach and advocacy programs aimed at empowering youth apart from the Ajira digital training.
