CS Lauds Land digitization reform as she issues 9,347 Title Deeds

Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. Margaret Kobia, has praised the digitization of land processing in Kenya.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the reform has led to convenient, fast and secure land transactions in Kenya and reduced land fraud cases countrywide.

“The digitization reform in the land sector has improved the security of land documents, leading to convenient, fast and secure land transactions in Kenya and reduced land fraud cases countrywide,” said the CS.

Speaking during the issuance of 9,347 title deeds in Embu, Kobia said that the National Titling programme is one of the several achievements under reforms in the land sector, which was introduced by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The exercise follows the launch of the National Titling programme by the President on June 22, which will come to an end with issuance of 1 million title deeds countrywide.

She said that the title deeds issuance programme has made it possible for marginalized communities and citizens, to locally own land thereby empowering them to develop economically.

The CS also added that the programme aims to address historical land issues, saying that through the initiative, the Government has been able to secure the country’s natural resources and heritage sites that were under the threat of being grabbed.

She advised residents to use their title deeds to secure loans which will help them venture in business at the same time encouraging them to practice farming and agroforestry to boost their livelihoods.

She further urged Embu residents who do not have title deeds to visit the County Commissioner’s office, who will further guide them together with the land’s office.

Kobia advised the vulnerable elderly Embu residents to register their names with the County Commissioner, to enable them to receive the monthly payment which is the Government’s social protection scheme for the elderly in Kenya.

The CS called on the youths and women in Embu to apply for the Youth Enterprise Development Funds, Women Enterprise Fund so as to secure money to boost their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
