In a recent announcement, President William Ruto revealed that plans are underway to convert the famous Dandora dumpsite into an energy city. Speaking to Donholm residents, he explained that the project would generate megawatts of energy and create employment opportunities for the city’s inhabitants.
“We will make Dandora become a city, a place where we can generate energy, it will be a waste-to-energy city,” he said. Governor Johnson Sakaja will be at the forefront of the project to ensure the city transforms and regains its former glory.
Ruto also pledged to create employment opportunities for youths through the housing projects, with the team looking to recruit technicians, plumbers, masons, and more from Nairobi. He emphasized the need to clean up and green the city, promising to employ 3,000 more youths to help with the cleanup.
The Dandora dumpsite has been a cause for concern for many years due to the environmental degradation and health hazards it poses. However, the conversion of the dumpsite into an energy city could mark a significant turning point for Nairobi’s development. The project not only provides a solution to the waste problem but also offers employment opportunities and boosts the city’s energy capacity.
As Nairobi seeks to enhance its infrastructure and improve the living standards of its residents, the Dandora energy city project could be a step in the right direction. The move is expected to contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for the city.
