DCC  urges leaders to unite  as Mashujaa Day approaches

Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Geoffrey Tanui has assured the public in Kilifi that there will be no split celebrations in the coming Mashujaa Day as witnessed on the last Madaraka day this year when former governor Kingi and his team split away from the County Commissioner and conducted a parallel celebration at a nearby venue.

During a closed-door meeting with representatives from various government departments in preparation for the upcoming 20th October Mashujaa day function that will be celebrated at the national and county levels, Mr. Tanui said that they will strengthen the coordination between the National and County government to ensure they conduct a successful event.

He assured that the two organs of the government have always worked together, but the last national day celebration was blemished by politics refuting the bad image painted by the media on the level of cooperation between the national and county government.

“The (former) governor and his team were on campaign mode, but the politics are over now. The new governor seems very cooperating and we are hopeful to work together very efficiently,” he added as he brushed off the idea of poor cooperation that was existing.

“I will contact the office of the governor so that we work hand in hand in the preparation of the upcoming Mashujaa day. We cannot go back to those embarrassing moments we experienced last time,” he added.

As the planning process is going on, the office of the DCC has started mobilizing all departments from the national and county governments to take up various roles in the preparations and execution of the national event.

“The County Department of culture will help us organize the entertainment from our cultural groups. We should be able to know how many groups we are expecting and how they will be paid,” he said.

Budgeting, entertainment, and preparation of parades by law enforcers and scouts are some of the major issues that are under consideration in the preparation process.

The County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka and the new Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro are expected to grace the Mashujaa day celebration in the County.
