A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in the United States, where a dog shot and
killed a man after accidentally discharging a gun left on the backseat of a pickup truck.
According to police in Kansas, the victim, who was sitting in the truck’s front passenger
seat, was out on a hunting excursion with the pet when the incident occurred.
The dog stepped on the rifle, causing the weapon to discharge and strike the passenger
in the back. The victim died on the scene from his injuries.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s office stated that the preliminary investigation shows it to
be a hunting-related accident and the investigation is ongoing.
Officials did not disclose whether the 30-year-old man who died was the dog’s owner.
Accidental shootings are unfortunately common in the United States, where there are
more guns than people.
According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than
500 people died in firearm accidents in 2021.
