Somali Carmel Herders Shoots a Farmer in Kitui

A farmer was Monday night shot and seriously injured by Somali camel herders at his farm in Kisioni village, Nzangathini sub location, of Kitui East Sub county.

The victim, middle aged Savali Kithome was rushed to the Kitui level 5 hospital by villagers where he is receiving medical attention.

Speaking today to KNA in Kitui town, Endau Malalani ward MCA Dr Erastus Musyoka said that the victim encountered the terrible ordeal while he was at his farm.

“Three armed Somali herders walked into Savali’s home at his farm and found him in his compound. They asked Kithome to help them with drinking water and as he turned to get it from the house, one of the herders pulled out a gun,” he said.

“Fortunately Kithome saw him pulling the gun and tried to flee. This is when he was shot on the thigh from behind,” said Musyoka.

He further added that after shooting the farmer, the Somali Camel herders walked away unbothered.

Kithome raised the alarm , attracting the attention of villagers who responded immediately and came to his rescue.

He was immediately rushed to Kitui Level 5 hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The Endau Malalani Ward MCA lamented that three farmers in the ward have lost their lives since October last year as a result of the ongoing conflict between the local farmers and the Invading Somali camel herders.

He also urged the Kamba herders to be cautious because the Somali herders are heavily armed.

The MCA further called on the national government to intervene as the matter seems getting out of hand.
