Donation of Water tanks

The County Government of Nakuru has supplied three water storage tanks worth five million to the residents of Morindat Ward in Gilgil sub- County.

The MCA for the ward Peter Njoroge Maina commended the county for the donation and said the tanks will be installed at the Chemichemi springs and they are estimated to serve 2600 persons of Merironi village.

He said a solar panel, a pump, and water pipes running 2.6 km will be installed to ensure villagers fetch their water outside the springs to preserve the purity and cleanliness of the environment. He was speaking to KNA today during an interview at the Nakuru County Assemblies offices.

Additionally, he said the county was in the process of constructing three permanent tanks, each with a projected 50 cubic meters of water to serve the increasing population in the area.

Maina said the tarmac road which was constructed by the government for the tourist hotels in the area has changed the face of the village, and the land was in high demand in the area, hence the increased population.

He said there was a high possibility of the water being used for irrigation during the dry seasons, as long as more trees are planted around the springs to conserve the environment.

He applauded the residents of his ward for their zealous protection of the Chemichemi springs and their environmental awareness that has seen a number of them preserve a quarter of their farms for tree growing.
