The socio-economic status of Vihiga residents is set for transformation with the construction of the granite factory in the area.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the factory will harness the rocks, which form one-third of the county land mass, for the production of gravel and other products.
The county head said this after touring the site at Ebuyangu, in Luanda sub county on Thursday.
The county boss said he is grateful to President Uhuru Kenyatta for honouring the pledge of establishing the long-awaited factory.
He said the county government donated 10 acres of land two years ago to the national government, which is collaborating with a foreign investor in the implementation of the project at a cost of Sh50 million.
The factory is set to offer employment opportunities to county residents and also produce granite products such as terrazzo and tiles.
According to the contractor, the factory will be complete by December 2022.
