FKF Women Division One league teams expanded in upcoming season

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Division One league has been expanded to 31 teams; 15 teams in Zone A and 16 teams in zone B for the 2022/23 season to accommodate teams from the regional and county leagues.

The decision was made on Thursday when FKF Women Division One club officials met to deliberate on the preparations for the start of the league and inspection of fields to ensure they are fit for play as well as reviewing the 2022/23 season fixtures.

It was however decided that in the 2023/24 season, the league will have 12 teams in each zone.

FKF General Secretary and CEO Barry Otieno and Head of Leagues and Competitions Doreen Nabwire attended the meeting with the CEO giving an update on the current situation at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), which has caused the postponement of some matches until some cases are heard and determined.

Additionally, the officials were urged to formalise all player transfers on the Kenya Connect Player Registration System, in accordance with FIFA’s regulations on player transfers. This should be done before the Friday, December 2, 2022 deadline.

The club officials have been strongly encouraged to maintain the integrity of the game by resisting any attempts of match manipulation and reporting any possible cases to the Federation’s Integrity Department for further investigation and disciplinary action.

The 2022/23 season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, December 10, 2022, with eight games at various venues.
